EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

Cajamarca is the setting of the encounter between the culture of Spain and the Andean world. The layout of the city and its buildings, both civil and religious, built of adobe and volcanic stone within the Historic Centre of Cajamarca, offer an exceptional testimony of Spanish-Andean culture. The architecture, which is unique and covers every century from the 16th to the 19th, makes the city centre of Cajamarca a monument of great cultural value.

Day 1 |Cumbemayo|Rocky Forest & Water Aqueducts|

Depature : 09:30 am/1: 30 pm

On this tour you will visit the ancient aqueducts and archaeological wonders of Cumbemayo. This excursion gives travelers a good glimpse into the Peruvian past.

The water channels carved at Cumbemayo are incredible and continue to baffle archaeologists, one look at these smooth and straight structures will surprise you too.

The channels are believed to have been carved with obsidian hammers. They are approximately 3,000 years old and provide evidence of the hydraulic engineering works that the inhabitants of this region were capable of doing. The canals divert water from the Pacific side of Peru to the Atlantic side. There are several enigmatic petroglyphs here as well.

Some archaeologists believe that Cumbemayo was once used for religious purposes. Without a doubt, this is a place of spectacular beauty, especially with its ichú grass and strange volcanic formations. Make sure you have your camera handy when you visit.

The ancient aqueducts of Cumbe Mayo continue to baffle archaeologists. Located on the outskirts of the town of Cajamarca in the Highlands of northern Peru, Cumbe Mayo is an absolutely fascinating place to visit.

Day 2|Ventanillas de Otuzco + Transfer to Chachapoyas

Departure : 08:30 am

The Ventanillas de Otuzco is an archaeological site located in the district of Baños del Inca, 8 km northwest of the city of Cajamarca. The area with rare formations from volcanic rock served as a funerary site for pre-Inca civilizations.

Otuzco is the necropolis of a pre-Inca civilization, older than the Caxamarca culture, most probably with Wari culture influences. Hundreds of galleries and individual niches, which resemble windows («ventanillas» in Spanish), were carved into the rock.

Then we have a Vivencial Tour of the suspension bridge for photos,Amazing tours to  visit the Garden of giant hydrangeas

In addition to spending a grate moment in  the Alpes Farm to taste , buy cheese and local sweets from Cajamarca.

*The trip from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas takes approximately 10 hours, crossing the Andes mountains with  an altitude of 3,600 meters and then descending to Chachapoyas.
This is a trip of unique and spectacular landscapes that you won’t forget.

Day 3|Full Day | Kuelap & Cable Car |

Depature : 09:00 am/5: 00 pm

The recent installation of a cable car system has greatly improved the ease of access. It carries visitors from the town of Nuevo Tingo to an area that is a 30-minute up hill walk from the archaeological site. Horses are available to hire for the walk from the cable car station to the entrance of Kuelap if necessary.
The Kuelap cable car system stretches about 14,435 feet (4,400 m) up the mountainside, taking about 20 minutes each way. This new improvement cuts out 90 additional minutes driving on a winding dirt road. Keep in mind that  the cable car is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 8 AM to 5 PM. If traveling to Kuelap on a Monday, additional driving time should be considered.

Day 4|Full Day -Gocta Fall |

Depature : 08:00 am/6: 00 pm

The Gocta Waterfall in Peru, commonly known as Gocta Falls, is one of the tallest waterfalls in the world. This 2,530-foot (771 m) waterfall has just two drops, and the powerful free-fall from the second drop is among the tallest in the world.
Named after the closest settlement, the local communities have appreciated the Gocta Waterfall for centuries. “Discovered” by an outsider in 2002, this impressive waterfall has only been on the world’s radar for a short time. With improved infrastructure in the area, the Gocta Waterfall is garnering more popularity than ever before.

Fantastic day spent with Dilser!!!Dilser has excellent English skills and completely helped us understand everything that we had questions about.Visited Temple of the Moon, lunch in Trujillo, followed by Chan Chan. Not once during the day did we feel rushed or like we were asking too many questions.I can’t emphasize the quality of this tour - his patience with our questions, knowledge of the historical and archeological processes involved, as well as his local expertise far surpass many other tours we have been on. At times, we felt like we were with a celebrity - he is well known and locals always smile when he comes around.Highly recommend Dilser and Norte Expedition Tours if you are in the Trujillo and Huanchaco region.

We had a great time visiting El Brujo and the Museo Cao with Dilser. He's very knowledgeable, with a lot of info for us and very nice to speak slower because my Spanish is so limited. I actually learnt a lot about Peru and I would encourage more travellers to see the north!
